Makeovers as Fundraising Ideas

Posted in Slimming & Fitness by Mathew Bachelor on January 30, 2012

Have you ever thought of makeovers as fundraising ideas? Unique fundraiser ideas are sometimes hard to come by because so many clubs and schools hold so many fundraisers every year. As a result, the public becomes over saturated with fundraisers, in general, so to pique their interest, you need some fun and unique fundraising ideas. Makeovers could easily turn into a great fundraiser event.

If your club has its own building, holding a makeover session will be pretty easy to do. If your club is trying to make money for charities, you might be able to enlist a few professionals to offer their services for free, or at least at a reduced rate. Of course, you wouldn’t necessarily have to have professionals for everything you offer at your makeup sessions.

What all should you provide for your paying customers? I would suggest haircuts and hair styling, pedicures and manicures, facials, and makeup tips. You might also want to provide a person to give tips on how to dress well for body shape, along with the best colors and shades to wear for an individual’s skin tone and overall coloring. Another good idea would be to have someone with a variety of accessories, including handbags, totes, jewelry, scarves, and sunglasses. These vendors could bring their products and give your club a cut of their sales income. You could do the same with any makeup that’s sold at the fundraiser, too.

To make these makeover fundraising ideas really enjoyable, set the scene to make it seem more like a relaxing spa experience. Have some soft music playing in the background, and make sure your patrons feel “spoiled.” Offer them a glass of wine, along with some cheeses, crackers, and fruits. You want your customers to really enjoy their experience so that your club will gain a good reputation for its fundraisers.

What You Need To Know About Cellulite Reduction Massage

leg massage

Cellulite is an embarrassing condition that effects almost all women. Humans all have a layer of subcutaneous fat underneath their skin which serves to protect and insulate the body. While a smooth layer of this fat will not cause a problem, as women age, the fat begins to gather on pouches, giving the skin a dimpled or padded appearance. While not dangerous or harmful, most women are anxious to get rid of or reduce the appearance of cellulite. There are several ways to reduce cellulite. Many companies are making creams and lotions that can help to reduce the appearance of cellulite. However, these treatments are usually temporary and have to be applied continuously in order to be effective. One of the more permanent solutions is a cellulite reduction massage.

A cellulite reduction massage is a Deep Tissue massage that is done in areas where cellulite is a problem. The massage stimulates blood flow to the area and as more blood begins to enter those areas, extra fat and other products are transported away, leaving a smoother skin surface behind. Areas with cellulite can also become thicker over time and the massage will loosen up the fat deposits, making it easier for the circulatory system to work in that area. While this treatment does not last forever, it is a great option for overall health as well as improving appearances of cellulite.

When thinking about having a cellulite massage performed, going to a excellent massage therapist is a must. They are specially trained and will be the most effective at reducing cellulite deposits as well as helping their clients to understand the causes of cellulite. If cellulite has been a problem or is causing an avoidance of normal activities, think about having a cellulite reduction massage. They are an easy and effective way to decrease cellulite.

Healthy Eating and Healthy Lifestyle Key To Beauty Results

One of the most common complaints that women have when it comes to their looks is the wrinkles which come with aging.  Most men don’t even see the wrinkles that their wives complain about, but the wife can spot the most tiny crease around her mouth or eye.  It used to be thought that nothing could be done about wrinkles and that they were a natural part of getting older.  To a certain extent this is true but there actually are many steps you can take to limit your wrinkles.

The first step is to take a look at your lifestyle.  In particular, do you smoke?  Stopping smoking can be the most important lifestyle change to make if you want to help your face stay smooth.  I have seen women in their thirties who look like they may be sixty years old just because their skin is so creased.  Smoking actually does two things that are not good for your looks.  First, when you inhale smoke instead of air you are actually depleting the oxygen levels in your body.  This can cause cell death which shows up as the leather look on your face.  Second, cigarette smoke contains many poisons and carcinogens (cancer causing agents) that can attack all parts of your body including your skin.  So stop smoking today.

The next step is to be sure you are drinking enough water and getting enough sleep.  Both of these are ideas that most people ignore but they can be very important.  You should drink at least a gallon of water every day.  Replace sodas and coffee with water to rejuvenate your skin’s cellular structure. You should also get a minimum of 7 hours of sleep a night.  Our bodies are great at repairing themselves and much of this work is done during the downtime when we are asleep.

The last cheap and easy tip for stopping wrinkles is to eat a balanced diet that is low in sugar and starch.  Sugar can actually cause the collagen in skin to sag.  Collagen is what holds the skin tight against your face.  As it sags it causes the skin to wrinkle up.  So ban the white stuff.

But also, look out for hidden sugars.  The starch carbohydrates are quickly digested into glucose (sugars) when we eat them and thus can have the same effect as eating a couple of tablespoons of sugar.  If you need help with limiting carbohydrates then visit us at the No Carbs Food Diet and learn tips and tricks for eating healthy.

Not only will you feel better but you also may start looking younger.

Shopping for Nose Hair Trimmers in Mongolia

Posted in Beauty Supply by Mathew Bachelor on January 1, 2012

So this year I spent my Christmas in frosty Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, shivering away at -35 degrees Celsius.  It was interesting, to say the least, but it didn’t feel festive in the slightest.  The Mongolians, being Buddhist (and quite poor, in the main) don’t celebrate Christmas.  They don’t even celebrate it in the purely commercial way that most of us in the west observe the holiday, though the local department store is doing its level best to kick off the tradition by trying to charge the equivalent of $300 for an artificial Christmas tree.

em>$300?  Really?

Anyway, where was I?  Oh yeah, Christmas presents.  I really struggled to find  anything suitable to send home to my family this year.  There’s only one half decent shop in Ulaanbaatar, Ikh Delguur (which translates roughly into English as ‘the big shop’).  The stock is all brought in from Beijing by train through the Gobi Desert, and it’s typically all stock that the Chinese couldn’t sell in country.  If you’ve ever visited Beijing you’ll know that they could sell you your own trousers while you’re wearing them, so you can guess at the quality of the Mongolian products.

After a heck of a lot of searching I found the best nose hair trimmer on sale in the country (happy Christmas, dad).  The trimmer is called the Groom Mate Platinum XL, and I’m fairly sure it was the only thing on sale in Ikh Delguur that was made in the USA rather than deepest, darkest China.

em>Attractive, no?

So, one gift down and four to go.  I spent another three hours walking in a daze through the store, checking out cheap, threadbare cashmere and terrible, low quality toys that were, I assume, painted with 90% pure lead.  It was a disaster!  I had two days before the last post back to the UK before Christmas, and all I had were cheap nose hair trimmers.  Nothing for my mother, two brothers or sister.  It looked like the only gift they’d be getting this year would be the sight of my father without tufts of hair sprouting from his nostrils (not a bad gift, actually.  His nasal hair is insanely lush).

After a day of waking around Ikh Delguur I had to give up the idea of buying gifts in Mongolia.  I’d tried and failed.  This country just doesn’t have anything good on sale.  I returned home dejected, logged onto the Internet and bought everyone Amazon and iTunes vouchers, possibly the least imaginative gift under the sun.

So, happy Christmas, family, and a happy new year.  I’ll get you all something nice next time.  Promise.

Practical and Elegant Hairstyles to Glam Up the Holiday Season

Posted in Slimming & Fitness by Mathew Bachelor on November 28, 2011

It’s Christmastime once again and for many of us, this season is tantamount to indulgence, from buying gifts for friends and loved ones to going away on a holiday trip. Additionally, this season is also the time for parties, soirees and family gatherings which only means that you need to constantly look your best.

But as this is also the busiest time of the year, keeping your hair tamed and properly coiffed can be quite a challenge which is why we have asked the help of Salon 9309 to sum up the easiest and most attractive hairstyles perfect for spreading the holiday cheers.

In choosing the right hairstyle for you, you also need to factor in your personality and lifestyle. This allows you to be comfortable with your hairdo as well as keep your personality intact in spite of your extra glamorous look.

1.     For women on the go – if you are someone who always needs to be in two places at one time, then you don’t have much time to spare on styling your hair. As such, you will need to multi-task. While prepping up to prepare your children to school, you can put on your hot rollers and work your way through your daily chores. By the time you’re done, you can simply undo your curlers and add on a few touch-ups to give it an elegant look. As you probably do not have the time to regularly visit a salon, make sure to also check on the best hair products in your area to help maintain your hair’s natural shine, the product line of Pureology in Oklahoma City, for instance, can help ensure beautiful hair without much fuss.

2.     For women who loves getting dolled up – if you love looking extra fabulous every time you step out of the house, consider setting your hair in elegant curls and give them an extra boost of fashion by clipping on a trendy pin or hairclip.

3.    For the adventurous women – if you prefer to go against the norm and still look fashionably chic, considering getting a pixie cut ala Emma Watson. To style your short hairdo, simply comb through it and apply a hairstyling gel to keep your locks in place.

Skin Glands

Posted in Health And Wellbeing by Mathew Bachelor on November 26, 2011

The glands of the skin are of two major types: the oil, or sebaceous, glands and the sweat, or sudoriparous, glands. The oil glands are scattered over the skin surface except on the palms and soles. They are situated in the dermis, mostly in direct association with hairs so that their ducts open into the hair follicles. Oil glands are from 0.004 inch in diameter and consist of several pear-shaped lobules of specialized epithelium surrounded by a fibrous capsule.

The product of these glands, called sebum, is formed by fatty degeneration of the epithelial cells within the lobules and is collected in a common gland cavity, from which it is discharged into the upper portions of the hair follicles. Meibomian glands are sebaceous glands not associated with hairs. They are found on the male and female genital organs, about the lips and mucous membranes of the cheeks, and around the anus and areolae of the nipples.

Special large sebaceous-type glands on the inner surface of the prepuce, called Tyson’s glands, produce smegma. Other large sebaceous glands, called the glands of Zeiss, are found along the free borders of the eyelids associated with the eyelashes.

Sweat glands are of two major types: eccrine and apocrine. The eccrine glands are present in large numbers over the entire skin, extending deep into the corium and sometimes even deeper. Each eccrine gland consists of a single, long, epithelium-lined, blind tubule. The lower secretory portion is coiled into a ball-shaped conglomerate, while the upper ductal portion spirals up through the epidermis to the surface sweat pore.

Besides the secretory and ductal epithelium, the sweat glands have an outer layer of contractile myoepithelial cells, which are in turn surrounded by a thin, ground-substance basement membrane and by nerves and blood vessels. The diameter of the lumen or cavity of the eccrine sweat tubule varies from 5 to 20 microns (1 micron = approximately 1/25,000 inch).

The apocrine glands are found only over a few areas, such as the armpits, perineal and pubic regions, about the nipples, and occasionally on the abdomen and chest. The ducts of the apocrine glands usually open into follicles rather than independently onto the skin surface. They have about ten times the diameter of the eccrine ducts. The number of glands of both types in the skin has been estimated at between 2 and 15 million, with a total combined tubular length of about 8 miles.

The ceruminal glands of the ear canals, which secrete cerumen or earwax, and Moll’s glands of the eyelids can be considered as specialized types of apocrine glands.

Tips For Choosing The Very Best Anti Aging Creams

Posted in Makeup Products by Mathew Bachelor on November 21, 2011

When shopping for a wrinkle cream, wether that be at a local medispa, department store or online, there are a few things you should consider before you open your wallet and hand over your credit card.

The anti aging industry is a huge one, and it’s built on profit, not helping men and women reduce the visible signs of wrinkles on their faces. Because of this it can be easy to get scammed and waste a whole bunch of money without evening know it.

So how can you protect yourself and find the best anti wrinkle cream? Keep these five points in mind while shopping and you should do just fine.

  1. How Effective is It? This is a difficult thing to do when you’re shopping at a local retail outlet, but I’d advise anyone to take some time to research which ever brand or product you’re considering buying online before you spend a dime. Reading customer reviews and testimonials is an excellent way to determine the actual effectiveness of a product.
  2. How Soon Before I See Results? While the effectiveness is of upmost importance, how quickly you’ll see those results should be known as well. The biggest mistake made by women using anti aging creams is not sticking to the routine suggested by the manufacturer and giving up too soon before they see results.
  3. Ingredient List. Wrinkle creams aren’t just some magical substance, rather they’re a formulated list of active anti aging ingredients that have been tested and proven to reduce certain signs of aging. Know what active ingredients are best in anti wrinkle creams. Look for ingredients such as DMAE, Matrixyl and Argireline.
  4. Safety. It’s always a good idea to ensure that the product you’re trying is indeed safe to apply to your skin. This isn’t so much of an issue when shopping locally at a spa or department store. However products online are not as easily regulated. Be sure to do your homework on the ingredients and company. Usually a quick search will turn up any issues with a product.
  5. Value and Quantity. Evaluating raw value for an anti wrinkle cream is tough since what works for one women may not work for another. However it is possible that you can evaluate a product based on what other women have experienced and the quality of ingredients used in the product and then consider how much each tube/jar costs and what volume of cream is included. Often times you’ll find a product that contains more cream with similar ingredients for a lower price, there by making it a better value.

Be sure not to rush when purchasing an anti aging cream. Most women find a product they like and stick with it. While it may take some time to find that product which you like, it’ll all be worth it when you can depend on a particular brand each month rather then having to play the constant guessing game.

Small Compact Eye Makeup Tools For Travel

Posted in Makeup Products by Mathew Bachelor on November 17, 2011

Women all over the world have undoubtedly had this experience.  They’ve spent hours putting on their face in the morning, making sure that every last bit of mascara coats their lashes just right, only to end up with droopy eyelashes and raccoon eyes hours after they leave home.

Fixing this annoying eye makeup problem means you will have to keep an entire drawer’s worth of makeup in your purse.  One of the most bulky makeup tools you will have to bring along is your eyelash curler.  Nothing about this tool is made for portability.  It’s awkwardly shaped, the handles stick out at an odd angle, and it’s bound to get tangled up with everything else you are carrying in your bag.

Now you can get specially made portable eyelash curlers such as the one in this Japonesque pocket go curl eyelash curler review.  These eyelash curlers are often as small as a matchbook and fit easily in your pocket, makeup bag, or clutch.  These mini curlers are great because not only are they much smaller than normal curlers, but they are also resistant to warping out of shape and damage from being dropped.

Another great way to fit a lot of makeup tools into your purse is to use retractable makeup brushes and all in one eyeshadow and lip gloss palettes.  These palettes are often refillable and include a mirror and applicator inside.  You’ll still need to carry along enough makeup for touch ups during the day, but with these tips you can at least fit everything into a tiny makeup bag.

Two Night Boutique Escape For Two

Posted in Health And Wellbeing by Mathew Bachelor on November 9, 2011

If you are in to going to Spa’s and relaxing, then you may want to book a Boutique Hotel For Two and include your partner in all the fun and chilling.  It’s not always easy to get a man to come along to a spa day, they might have a problem getting in touch with there feminine side, they might not think they have a feminine side, but they do, as we know.

One way of getting around this initial resistance is to book a weekend away for two at a luxury hotel and maybe book in a treatment or two during the course of the weekend, this way they won’t think that they are necessarily participating in a ‘Spa Weekend’, more of a weekend away with a massage and a facial! Ok, a facial is probably too much for the first time, but you get what I mean.

There are lots of luxury breaks you can get yourself involved in and lots of cheap hotel breaks too.  The thing is, we don’t seem to pay enough attention to our bodies these days, it’s all about mental stimulation, from sightseeing to the latest films, but we only have one body and we would do well to look after it, better than we do.

One way of doing this is making sure you get to a masseuse once or twice a month or alternatively have a two night boutique escape for two and bring that big brute along with you aswell ;-)
