Natural Mosquito Repellent or DEET?

Posted in Health And Wellbeing by Clayton Yonker on September 29, 2011

When it comes to protecting your skin in a tropical country your biggest worry has got to be the sun.  You could be forgiven, then, in your hunt to find the perfect sun block, for forgetting about another important matter: mosquito repellent.

Whenever we travel to a mosquito ridden country we spray this stuff around like there’s no tomorrow. Every couple of hours we reapply repellent to our clothing and skin.  This is helpful, but we rarely think about the effect this is having on our skin.  Think about it. Most mosquito repellents use DEET, a solvent that can melt plastic.  Don’t you think that’s a dangerous thing to be spraying on your bare skin?

For years now I’ve used nothing but natural mosquito repellent.  I refuse to use DEET on my skin, and instead I use gentle natural ingredients to ward off the attention of mosquitoes.

Right now I use a citronella based natural mosquito repellent that produces a scent that mosquitoes really dislike.  OK, it’s not quite as effective as a chemical repellent, but even though I still get the occasional nip I’m pretty well protected and I’m not causing any damage to my sensitive skin.

So, next time you’re going on holiday you should consider leaving the DEET at home and going for a natural mosquito repellent.

Review Oil Treatment for Dry Hair

Posted in Slimming & Fitness by Tyrone Appleberry on September 28, 2011

We’ve all heard of the ole tried and true hot oil treatment and yet if you have really dry hair the standard hot oil treatment may not deliver for you.  I know I never found this method of product to remedy my curly overly dry hair.  So I’ve been on a very long mission to find something anything that works.

I’ve suffered with overly dry hair all my life.  I have curly hair and at best hoped to control the frizzy static dry hair that is my hair.  I never dreamed of straightening my curly dry hair.  Anyone with hair like mine knows it only looks good for about ten minutes and then the frizz returns making you regret you even tried.

Conditioners are a must and I’ve tried them all but hands down there is nothing that compares to Moroccan oil.   I was researching for this very problem one day and stumbled upon Moroccan oil, I gave it a try, just as I have all products that passed my point of good research.  This time it was different.  The product was a bit pricey, but for the sake of research I bought it.  I bought it in a salon and later learned you can save a lot of money buying it online.

I was instantly impressed upon first using Moroccan Oil, it smells amazing.  The aroma of this oil was a very pleasant surprise as I have never used an oil treatment that smelled so good and in fact amazing.  I was instantly hooked on the smell.  Then came the usage.  I put the amount in my palm that was suggested, now we all know this is never a fraction of enough.  Yet somehow the Moroccan oil magically covered a very large portion of my thick dry hair.  I left it at that to see how it would work.

You apply Moroccan Oil to wet hair.  I allowed my hair to dry naturally as I always did while I blow dry my bang area.  The natural air dried portion of my hair would take some time but the bang area dried soft and shiny.  I was in shock.  My hair felt like silk and was so shiny.  This was the first time I had ever experienced such a result.

Later once my hair dried my curls we soft shiny and bouncy.  I had no idea my hair could do this and so effortless.  I’m in love with this product and have stopped my life long research.  I couldn’t be happier.  So if you suffer from overly dry hair, curly dry hair or just regular dry hair give Moroccan Oil a try, you’ll be so happy you did.

Shopping for an entertainment laptop

Posted in Slimming & Fitness by Ted Blass on September 28, 2011

It wasn’t so long ago that laptops were marketed as suitable for a specific purpose, e.g. business laptops or gaming laptops. As technology has evolved however the lines are being blurred, and the ultimate laptop will have the ability to do whatever you want it to do. The perfect entertainment laptop for example would play games, blu-ray movies, and yet still have the capability to serve as the perfect business laptop.

An entertainment laptop will have an awesome graphics chip and a powerful processor, as well as a HD display and preferably a blu-ray player. That is easy to say, but there are just so many entertainment laptops on the market now that finding the perfect one for your budget is a difficult task. What you really need is a website which does it all for you, by perusing the many options on the market and identifying the best laptops for the money.

The website best multimedia laptop does this, by presenting the best multimedia laptops of 2011 into a range of price brackets such as under $500, under $1000, under $1000. Owl Figurine – Perfect Mimento for a Bird Lover

Posted in Fitness Equipment by Clayton Yonker on September 24, 2011

Every year in October the National Seashore Park on Cape Cod, Massachusetts hosts a midnight birdwatching tour to go in search of a Screeching Owl. When my now 30 year-old nephew Ben was 5, we decided to go.

That was quite an adventure for a small boy. While there is no guarantee that the tour will actually see (or hear) a screeching owl, the tour itself is a worthy adventure. It’s dark and the tall forest is very spooky. You walk with just flashlights pointed at the ground to keep you from tripping. You don’t want to scare the owls so you don’t point them up in the air.

Well we did get to hear the screeching owls. It was very impressive. I think everyone there (including the tour guide) jumped with the first screech was heard. What an adventure! Then multiple screeching owls were heard. Ben’s hand grabbed mine so tightly. Well we survived and it’s become one of our favorite memories. Now that he has his own son, he can hardly wait to bring him on the tour.

I gave him an owl figurine for a special keepsake Christmas present that year. It was the start of a small figurine collection for him, that represented our most special memories each year. When I visited him and his wife at their new apartment, I was delighted to see the cute figurines displayed in his son’s bedroom.

Curling Your Own Hair: Instructional Video

Posted in Slimming & Fitness by Lance Grinstead on September 8, 2011

Are you tired of your straight hair? Are you looking for a new hairstyle in order to spice up your life and bring more excitement to your coiffure? Going to the hair salon is not the only option. Curling your hair in the safety and comfort of your own home is a distinct possiblity, and a very good option to consider.

Why curl your hair at home? Here are a few very good reasons:

  • Privacy — get the hairstyle you want away from prying eyes. Is it natural or did you curl it? Nobody need know.
  • Economy — with the state of finances that most of us face today, we can barely afford necessities, much less luxuries. Styling your own hair is a way to save money.
  • Creativity — when you do it yourself, you get to put your own personal touch into the style that you adopt.

But isn’t styling one’s own hair just too difficult and time consuming? Doesn’t it require special skills, training and equipment? Not really. Anyone can do it, and in this day and age, you can even watch a video on the internet completely free of charge that will tell you what to do. Not only will it tell you, it will actually show you. So watch here!

Halloween Balloons – Cheap and Easy Decorations for Halloween

Posted in Beauty Supply by Clayton Yonker on September 4, 2011

Halloween balloons are a cheap and easy decorations for Halloween. They are especially appropriate for Halloween parties geared toward smaller kids. You can tie a large bunch of balloons together and use them to help people find your Halloween Party. In this case I might tie the Halloween balloons to a creepy yard sign.

Of course you’ll find Halloween balloons in black and orange. Many of them wish your trick-or-treaters Happy Halloween. Your balloons might be the traditional round shape with a design on them. Or for a special effect they could come in a special shape.

I love Halloween bat balloons! They are shaped like bats and look really great when you hang them – just like bats flying through the sky. They are cheap enough that you can have lots of them.

White ghost balloons are the same idea. They show up against the night sky. It might be fun to have a Witch flying through one of your trees on a broom. And then have bats and ghosts flying along with her!

Spider-shaped balloons also make wonderful addition to your Halloween decorations. Get some spider cobwebs to set your spider balloon in and you’ve got yourself one creepy corner!

Caring for your Skin

Posted in Beauty Therapy by Lance Grinstead on September 3, 2011

The skin is exposed daily to a countless variety of hazardous substances and conditions. Injurious substances should be identified and avoided, and warnings that certain household and industrial chemicals are harmful to the skin must be taken seriously. In addition, many common substances, including even soap and water, if used injudiciously or too frequently can produce’ skin damage in susceptible individuals. “Dishpan hands” results from the too frequent immersion of hands in water containing soap or detergents. Immersion may also predispose to the development of yeast infections around the nails. It is wise, therefore, to wear protective gloves when doing wet work.

The skin should also be protected from the effects of ultraviolet radiation. Because of its ultraviolet content sunlight is capable of causing both acute and chronic skin damage, including skin cancer. A number of excellent “sunscreen lotions have been developed, and they are usually effective in blocking out the harmful ultraviolet wavelengths.

Misguided efforts to improve the skin or remove blemishes often do more harm than good. Once it is realized that the skin normally supports a large population of harmless bacteria, it becomes evident that vigorous and drastic attempts to cleanse the skin are futile and that they may even cause skin irritation. Too frequent bathing or showering particularly during dry weather can result in removing the natural oils from the skin surface and thus lead to “winter itch” and eczema.

Many, if not most, of the concepts used in the advertising of cosmetics and “skin aids” are patently false. Notions such as “opening and closing pores,” the necessity of removing “dead” skin, “deep cleansing,” or “nourishing the hair roots” were all disproved scientifically many years ago. Certain commonly performed cosmetic procedures are potentially dangerous. For example, too frequent or harsh brushing of the hair may cause scalp irritation. Tight curling of the hair may cause temporary or even permanent hair loss, and pushing back the nail cuticle may provide an opening for infection.
