A bat transmits ultrasonic clicks made of sound of frequency 80 kHz; the clicks have a duration of 0.1 ms. The bat increases the clicking rate from about 20 Hz to 2 kHz as it nears its prey. An echo from an unwary moth initially returns after 20 ms. Find the wavelength of the ultrasound, and the number of waves in a click. What is the initial range of the moth and why does the bat increase its click rate?
wave length of ultrasound=1/f=1/80×10^3=12.5×10-6=12.5microsecond
number of waves in a click=click time/wavelength of ultrasound
=.1×10^-3/12.5x^-6=8
-the echo time=20ms —>20ms/2=10ms for the sound to reach the moth and 10ms to get back to the bat
speed of ultrasound depends on the meduim the wave travels in
speed in air is known to be 330m/s
distance=speed*time=330m/s*10×10-3s
=3.3m
good luck

Why do I need to drink a lot of water right before my ultrasound?
I’ve heard it has something to do with having clear fluids around the uterus, but that doesn’t seem right since the picture is seen through ultrasonic frequencies. So why exactly do I need to drink 32 oz and not pee (per doctor) an hour prior to the ultrasound?
Its to fill your bladder up, which sits under your uterus.
Filling the bladder pushes the uterus up, moving it in front of your intestines, making it easier to see (kind of like a window through your intestines to your baby).
