Can I put my bath towel on the radiator to dry it out?

During the warmer weather, I would lay my bath towel over the radiator to dry it flat so it didn’t mildew. Now that the radiators are turned on, can I still do this or is it dangerous? I’ve never had a radiator before.

If it is a steam or hot water driven radiator, you can do that. Just watch out because radiators are often pretty dirty. Even if you completely cover it, the radiator can never get hotter than the hot water or steam that is inside it, which is well below the flash point of the towel, the temperature at which the towel will catch fire. The flash point of cotton cloth is about 1000 degrees F, and steam maxes out at about 212F.

If it is an electric radiator, then do not do that. The electric element can make the radiator hotter and hotter until the towel does catch fire.

Why the difference? A real radiator is not really a heater. It is a heat exchanger. If the water (or steam) inside it is hotter than the towel and air on the outside of the radiator, heat moves from the water (or steam) into the towel and air. If the towel and air get as hot as the water (or steam) inside the radiator, no more heat moves. It is in equilibrium.

The electric radiator is a heater. It turns electricity into heat, and if you trap that heat with a towel, the radiator and towel will get hotter and hotter.

Can you make most package seeds germinate MORE quickly by placing them on a warm moist paper towel?

I’m growing some easy one’s as don’t have time unfortunately to tend a garden all season:
zinnia’s,Felicia[bergeriana], Lupine[russell mixed], sweet peas[blue ripple]
are the sweet peas and Lupine, Felicia all very easy to grow?

Buy covered peat pots at the local nursery. (they were right next to the seeds when you bought them) Follow instructions.
