Why and where does the choice of hand for the wedding ring differ?

Here in the UK we all wear our wedding rings on our left hand.

A Greek Orthodox bride wears the ring on the left hand prior to the ceremony, then moves it to the right hand after the wedding.

In Norway, Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Poland, Austria, Germany, Denmark, Latvia, some countries of former Yugoslavia and in Spain (except in Catalonia) the wedding ring is worn on the ring finger of the right hand.

In the Netherlands, Protestants traditionally wear their engagement ring on the ring finger of the left hand, and their wedding ring on the ring finger of the right hand (a practice which is also widespread in Germany), whereas Roman Catholics do the opposite.

In the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium, the wedding ring on the ring finger of the left hand is traditional among Roman Catholics living in the provinces of West Flanders and East Flanders and in part of Limburg, but not elsewhere.

In a traditional Jewish wedding ceremony, the groom places the ring on the bride’s index finger, and not the ring finger; Today the ring usually is moved to the ring finger after the ceremony and most Jewish grooms have adopted wearing a wedding ring. This tradition is because in Ancient Israel, at the time of the Talmud, the Jews believed the index finger was closest to the heart, whereas Christians thought that it was the ring finger.

In the Indian wedding tradition, the left hand is considered inauspicious. Hence the wedding ring is worn on the right hand. However, despite tradition, some wear the ring on the left hand, matching cultural practice in some western countries.

hi..i can understand how working womens feel with their day to day skincare problem..what i do is as i have dry skin aswell and dark circles..juice of raw potato ..u just need 1-2 drop..if u put that may be 2-3 times a week or every day if possible ..within a month you r dark circle will become very light…self facial…u can make face mask by just using sandal powder,besan,milk and rose water,apply a thin layer in your face ,leave it for 15 min and then wash slowly..when you dont have time to make this ,somedays you can put a thin layer of aloevera gel but add little water,dont put pure concentrated aloevera gel….you can use same for body(not aloevera) but add multani mitti and it really works for body as a good exfoliator….for pedicure and manicure…u can put glycerine and few drops of lemon in the night,it really gives very soft hand feet..and then once a week soak your hands and feet with liquid wash..use brush and pumic stone .take off nail paint first..and always remember to apply body lotion after shower and always use good and rich cream for your hands and feet….i hope it works for you..

if healthy hair needs a healthy scalp, what things could and should you be doing or not doing, from day to day

….ie if the scalps needs to be unclogged with debris, should you use a fine variation of a facial scrub on your scalp?

You have a wonderful set of questions.
As licensed cosmetologist for 30 years I can give you the overview of what has been tuaght for many years.
Healthy hair comes from a healthy body, things to consider are taking a suppliment such as Biotin, Niacin and Zink (good for hair skin & nails).
You can take it internally as well as purchase biotin products for the hair & scalp.
To oxygenate you would need to manipulate your scalp by doing a scalp Therapy Massage. This done at least once per day stimulates the red blood cells to the scalp/skin tissues therefore vitalizing the hair folicles on your scalp. There was a older practice of using a electron manipulator. It greatly resembles the globes that have the electrical arcs going through it you can hanlde that are so neat to watch. This large glass comb was done as a scalp therapy. I am certain in some salons it may very well still be offered as a service.
Regarding bright artificial light it can be damaging to your hair. You have to consider also free radicals. The excessive heat from artifical light can remove much needed moisture and create very dry brittle hair therefore creating an unhealthy head of hair.

I would not reccomend facial scrub for the scalp as scal PH and facial PH can differ and the scrub can be harmful to tender scalp areas that normally are “protected” by hair.

Day to day maintenence is simple; use a quality PH balaced professional shampoo. A moisturizing replacement can be added as needed, porhaps once to twice per week. If you hair does not hold moisture, then it needs a prtein prior to moisturinzing, otherwise the hair (protein) cannot hold the moisture being used. So with that said, use a product like Redkens (C) C.A.T. it is a spray on protein product which we use in salons to recreate a form of protein for hair that has been deprived of moisture or abused by chemicals.

A scal therapy once per day or 3 x weekly would be excellent and the vitamin suppliment mentioned is fine. Excessesive heat by using styling prducts can damage hair however it can be great for “controlled damage” which allows your hair to hold style and respond to your needs.
If you have ever seen the sleeky silk head of perfect hair, is it styled? Does it just hang there?
Exactly it sure does unless someone is working at creating a nice control to the damage on the scalp.
Bottom line if you care for your hair with these simple techniques, your hair will look vibrant, be full of body and respond to you.

I push mowed my yard today and washed my truck and now i have a very sore back muscle. i don’t have a heat pad or any kind of massager.

Cold packs can also help if you do not have a proper cold pack – try looking in your freezer for a packet of peas or beans or corn or whatever you have and place it on your back wrapped in a damp cloth.

One of my dogs ate chicken bones?

One of my 2 dogs got into the garbage and ate 2 chicken bones… I have a guess of which dog did it but at this point we are assuming it was either one. I have called the vet and they told to feed them bread and food to make sure their stomachs are full to cushion the bones. I’ve been told to give them cotton balls and the vet said that we could give them bread or cotton ball to help. Has anyone been through this? What worked best for you? we are really hoping to avoid taking them to the emergency vet.
It’s the splintering that is the problem… and before they were domesticated they weren’t eating Cooked chicken bones which dry out and splinter.
Lindsay.. did you read the question? they said to use cotton balls OR bread… I just wanted to know which one people had better luck with. We talked to several vets, they all said there was no need to bring them in unless they showed signs of distress.

I have good experiences with bread. My dog ate a spool of thread a couple of weeks ago and my vet also suggested bread to fill her stomach. The thread came out about 12 hours later. A household remedy here in Denmark is to feed your dog cooked asparagus if it has eaten something sharp, as the asparagus fibres are supposed to wrap themselves around the sharp object. I haven’t tried it myself, though.

Cooked chicken bones can certainly be dangerous as they can splinter and cut the dog’s intestine, but luckily it doesn’t happen that often. Most likely your dogs will be just fine. Feed them bread, and keep an eye on them, so you’re ready to rush them to the emergency vet if they become listless or sick.

Where could I buy a good dress form either used or new it doesnt really matter. I already looked at Joann’s Fabric Store but their expensive. Do you think local fabric stores would have any? I dont want the ones that open up and make gaps so the size gets bigger. If you’ve ever seen project runway the dress forms they have are full cushion. the shiatsu massagers that i have seen are rather rough, even to the point of causing pain.

Help! Huge knots in my back.?

For several years, I have had these huge knots in my back. One in my right shoulder, one about 4″ lower, and one about 2″ lower than that. I have been to a chiropractor(4 sessions). This did not help. I also have a huge numb spot on that side of my back too. Sometimes it tingles and itches. It has never really caused me much pain. When you push on the bottom two knots, it hurts the top knot in my shoulder. They seem to be connected. If I use my shiatsu massager on the knots, it seems to make them larger, and it makes my spine hurt, and gives me a headache. I takes days for the swelling to go down. What do I do?
Also I forgot. My legs have been aching really bad lately too.

Stop doing massages! This could be making it worse. I have had problems with my right shoulder for years and am about to have to get surgery on it…mine’s a little different then yours but I can understand. I would make an apt. with a orthopedic surgeon. This doesn’t mean you have to get surgery, but they can run tests, get you some medicine, maybe some physical therapy, tell him everything, this could be serious
