What sort of substrate for my tropical tank?

I have not set it up to cycle yet.
- 100L with good canister filter.
- 26′C
- Planted with fert. and good lighting
- 4 danios, 3 otos and maybe neons or the like

I am going to buy ‘smaller’ substrate. I have the choice of:
100% crushed basalt, black, approx 1mm.
OR
Dark grey, tiny rounded river stones, 3-6mm.

Both safe, won’t change Ph, both cost the same.

Your opinion? I’m personally edging toward the river stones, as more natural for a planted tank?

I would chose the Grey 3-6 mm
!. It looks more natural, especially with live plants.
2. Its a little larger, so it will be much easier to gravel vacuum with, wont have to worry about the vacuum sucking it up.

Small metate y mano (flat basalt grinding stone) for corn?

I am moving and I can’t take mine with me, it’s too big and heavy. I want something small enough to stuff in my suitcase. Something this size: http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/images/grindcorn.jpg

Which shops should I frequent to find a SMALL metate? Most of the ones I find are huge!! I am in california at the moment. I don’t want a bowl mortar and pestle (molcajete), I want a flat grinding stone. Any advice? Thanks!

Find a basalt outcrop near your new home and make one. I mean really, if you want to grind your own corn you might as well make your own metate.
