Hand Palm
Is it true that pointing at the palm of your hand with your forefinger is rude in Israel?

I read in a book about gestures that in Israel pointing at the palm of your hand with a forefinger has the meaning of ‘The grass will grow on my hand before your words come true’ ie Go f*** yourself. Is this true? And if not, has anyone come across this gesture anywhere else?

Actually no, pointing the third finger at you or upward is an insult (i.e. F*** you).

How to meter off the palm of my hand?

I’m trying to learn how to meter off the palm of my hand. I seem to do okay when I use a grey card, but now I’m getting confused with how to use my hand.
So if i can get my hand to reflect light at the same angle as my subject, do I then increase the exposure by one stop to get the same exposure as the grey card?

I seem to be confusing myself with all this. I would love some step by step instructions to try out.

Any help would be awesome. Thanks!

The palm of the hand is a useful trick to use when you don’t have a grey card available. How much you change the exposure to ‘correctly’ meter depends on your skin tone (the palm is considered good because it is less likely to tan & therefore change in exposure). Calibrate your palm against an 18% grey card & then you’ll know what EV comp to add/subtract.

The whole issue is somewhat moot as you can chimp your exposure on the LCD and correct as necessary.
