Back Neck
Rugby: My back/neck is hurting after doing scrums in a game of 7′s. Can any one help?

Hey, I’m playing rugby 7′s and I’m doing the three man scrums and have just played a game in the scrum. I normal 15′s I play as a centre so have never really done any scrums before. But after the game my back and neck ache and hurt. Is this normal as I’m new to it? Is my technique wrong, that’s why I’m getting pains? Thanks for any help

You already know the answer to this – look at your penultimate sentence.

Even in sevens, the scrum is a highly technical issue. You MUST be taught the techniques, and train at scrummaging under qualified supervision. The consequences of getting this wrong are entirely out of scale with the problems of learning it properly. If not for you, then for another player who may be injured.

If you are sore after exercise, it could be simply that your fitness is not where it needs to be, or that your technique is off. But if your neck *hurts*, that is another matter. Consider getting medical advice on the neck, if it hurts. And absolutely get instruction and supervision on scrummaging.

Rugby, even Sevens, is not American razzle-dazzle touch football. Respect the game and yourself. Learn to do it correctly, and then practice what you have learned. You will be a better player, a safer player, and you’ll have more fun (not to mention being able to report for work on Monday).

I recently became vegetarian and I get frequent back and neck pain?

My neck’s hurting as I write this. I became vegetarian about 4 months ago and the back+neck pain started around then. Are these two connected? I also experience bloating. How to solve this?

It must be from leaning over the salad bar..LOL…just kidding. The 2 aren’t related.

Kim…have you been “imbibing”? You’re typing like a flexi…LOL
